Deng Jiaxian was born on June 25, 1924 in Huaining, Anhui Province, and died on July 29, 1986 in Beijing. He was a nuclear physics expert and academician of the China Academy of Sciences. He graduated from the physics department of the National South-West Associated University in 1945. In 1950, 26-year-old Deng was granted a doctorate in physics from Purdue University.
